A Religious tour in Uganda is categorized as; the indigenous religions, Islam and Christianity with the majority being Christians and cover approximately 60% of Uganda’s population. They are under the Roman Catholics and Protestants, however religions that are more Christian were introduced and these included the Greek Seventh-day Adventists, Baptists, Jehovah Witnesses, Orthodoxy, Latter-day and Saints among others. Islam faith covers 30% and the 10% for the tradition religions. Islam was the first to be introduced in Africa by the Arab traders and become politically significant in the 1970s; however, it earned a less percentage on the population due to its harsh faith laws that became hard for Ugandans to adopt. Christianity and Islam have combined religious trends in Uganda that attract travelers all over the world to have an experience of them. The Uganda Martyrs Namugongo Shrine.
This a holy place in Uganda that gathers hundreds of Catholics and Anglicans around the world to commemorate the death of 45 martyrs who died on 3rd June 1886 for their religious faith and refused to obey the King locally known as Kabaka Mwanga. King Mwanga was a cruel leader who honored his pride than any other faith and ordered for the execution of these Martyrs. Uganda Martyrs Namugongo shrine has so far hosted three popes including the Current pope Francis to celebrate mass with hundreds and thousands of Christians. The Munyonyo Martyrs Shrine
Similar to the Namugongo Martyrs shrine,Munyonyo Martyrs Shrine is the starting point of the youngest Christian who was executed on the 3rd June 1886.He begun his walk to Calvary on 26th May 1886 a two days journey to Namugongo and reached on 27th May 1886,most of the martyrs had been killed along the way but most of them were burned at Namugongo.
The Namirembe Cathedral
Originally known as Saint Paul’s Cathedral Namirembe, This is the oldest cathedral in Uganda and it was the first diocese to be founded under Church of Uganda province in 1890.The cathedral served as the provincial cathedral of the church of Uganda between 1919 and 1967.A tour around and in the Namirembe Cathedral church will give you a great memorial of you time in the City of Uganda because its situated in Kampala the Capital City of Uganda.
The Gaddafi National Mosque
This is the Uganda National Mosque known as the Gaddafi Mosque situated at Old Kampala, it was commissioned by the late Colonel Muammar Gaddafi as a gift to Uganda and for the benefit of the Islamic population. The Gaddafi mosque accommodates over 15,000 worshipers and can accommodated more 1,100 in the gallery and 3,500 at the terrace. This is the biggest mosque amongest all mosques in Uganda. The Bahai Temple
It is described as the mother temple of the Bahai faith in Africa.This is a house of worship that was constructed between 1958 and 1961 on Kakaaya hill in Kampala.
